Interviewing 'Bule'? Check this out!

Some of my students complained that they got an assignment from their English teacher. The task is pretty simple: they have to interview some foreigners and take a picture wiv them.

So, guys, here's some dos and don'ts in interviewing them....

The DOs

1. Ask permission

Don't just sit and talk to them...you will definitely bother them....ask whether they are willing to have this conversation...or else, the'll call the security...u don't want that to happen...rite?

2. Ask them whether they speak English or not

Some western-looking bule may not speak English. Although English is a second language in Europe, some guys from western Europe (chekoslovakia, armenia, yugoslavia, etc), Mediteranian (spain, portugese, greece, italy, etc), and central Europe (french, switzerland, austria, germany, etc) sometimes got messed up with their english pronunciation or fluency. 

So, don't ask me, "Pak, saya kemaren wawancara bule, tapi dia gak paham:(," 

"lho bule mana?" 

"bule Arab, Pak..." that's...uhm...ridiculous...

3. Always clearly state your reason

You know, you have to tell them that you are a student and are doing this as a school project. Because, sometimes they get scared...in case we're beggars, or sales, or terrorists...

Except if you want to get some bule friend, just for friend....that's different

4. Say thank you

you have to do this automatically...it's about appreciating others...don't wait till asked..

The DON'Ts

won't add further explanation, since it's a don't...so avoid them

1. Ask about religion, marital status, salary and other personal things

unless they want to...

2. Talk about sensitive issues concerning politics, social, and cultural that is considered offensive

such as genocide, nazi, red khmer, national scandal, and other things...unless, they want to...

3. Under estimate or mock them and their country

we respect each other...no hurt feeling

4. Smoke if they're eating or if they don't

5. Refuse their offer if you actually want to

yes means yes, no means no...

6. Stare at their certain bodyparts, especially breasts..

that's considered as a sexual harassment...even if you stare at their moles...

7. Throw them with your shoes if they refuse to have the interview

duh...

So, that's the basics...you can improvise it yourself...
